Top 10 Lost Mysteries That Need Answering.

Lost Season 6

10. Who are the Adam and Eve skeleton’s found in Season 1?

The mysteries of Lost started from the beginning, and so will this list. Producers have confirmed that the pair of skeletons Jack found in season 1 are, indeed, connected to season 5 and its trippy time-traveling element. This could either be very big or very little. On the one hand, a significant couplet could end up dead. On the other, the writers could just pin the mystery on a couple casualties that no one cares about. My guess: Rose and Bernard.

Walt from Lost9. What was up with Walt?

I have little hopes that this mystery will get what it deserves, seeing as how they have all but written the kid out of the show. Not to mention that the actor is two-feet taller now. Either way, at one point he was the center of attention and left a slew of questions in his wake. Why was he so important to the Others in season 2? And why did he appear to people in creepy, child-of-the-corn-ish images? What could this kid possibly be capable of that made Ben say he was “more than they bargained for” after kidnapping him?

daniel faraday lost8. Why is Daniel Faraday’s death/presence so important to the island?

The answer to this may be as simple as the island needing him for The Incident to occur and history to play itself out like it is supposed to. But I don’t buy that and will be sorely disappointed if they try to go this route. You’d think his own mother would do anything in her power to prevent the death she’d known about for years, but somehow he’s so important to the overall ‘plan’ that she spends his entire life prepping him to meet his doom. I think the reason will be an essential strand in season 6′s web. And maybe (hopefully) it has to do with the other two island-born that came to the island with him….

lost numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 427. Hurley’s Numbers

4 8 15 16 23 42. Another beginning element that had so many of us wondering six years ago, only to be brushed under the rug. Yeah, we know that the numbers were being transmitted from the island, picked up by a guy names Leonard when he was in the Navy, and later told to co-mental-patient Hurley. But why the curse? What is the real significance of them? And what does it have to do with Hurley’s special abilities (talking to his dead friends), if anything? An explanation for The Numbers was provided on ”The Lost Experience,” a 2006 online alternate-reality-game, but it’s never made an official appearance on the show.

The Smoke Monster from Lost6. The Smoke Monster

It made its debut in the first episode of Lost, solidifying that ABC’s new show was not your run-of-the-mill primetime tromp. As the seasons came and went, the beast referred to as the island’s ‘security system’ would fill our screens just often enough not to be completely forgotten. Besides the mystery of its purpose in general, here are a few questions that linger: Why did it kill Ecko? Can it take on human form? If so, is it an entity of Jacob, his nemesis, or neither?

Benjamin Linus from Lost5. Ben: Devil or Saint?

Before season 5, there was no doubt that Ben was the villain. We had a brief glimpse of humanity when his daughter was killed, but other than that, he was the man both Lost characters and Lost fans loved to hate. Hell, Sayid shot a kid just for the slim chance that grown-up Ben would never exist! But in the sixth season we started to see another side through his flashbacks. A side that showed less of a power hungry Ben and more of a Ben who had been forced into seemingly immoral acts (kidnapping Alex saved both her life and her mother’s from Widmore). Ben might actually be a good guy in all this, but the jury is still out for debate. What I’d like to know is just what happened when he was healed and why did it cause him to lose his ‘innocence?’ What has been his motivations this whole time? And did he really have the hots for Juliet, or was that just another scheme?

The Lost Statue4. What lies in the shadow of the statue?

No, not the question itself. That’s interesting, but Richard already answered it. What’s really interesting is Ilana and Bram’s purpose on the island. I’m guessing they are somehow connected to the huge Tawaret statue (revealed as an Egyptian deity of fertility, death, and evil), the same that housed Jacob’s death in the season finale. Its existence suggests that the island’s history goes far deeper than Dharma, the Others, and Oceanic Flight 815.

Claire from Lost3. Why’d Claire jump ship?

It seemed a tad rude to just run off into the jungle and throw her life away after Charlie gave his to secure her safety. But she did it anyway in what became, hands-down, the most random occurrence on Lost to date. Not only was it totally unexpected, but it got such little story time afterward that it would have been completely forgotten if not so intriguing in its nature. There’s a lot of loose strings with her dangling at the end and, seeing as how Emille de Ravin is signed on full-time to reprise her role as the mysterious mother, my bet is that Claire will be a central part of season 6.

Jacob from Lost2. Who is Jacob? And while we’re at it, who was impersonating John Locke???

Jacob’s been the Wizard of Oz since season 2, the behind the curtain guy that everyone loved to reference but no one could say they had actually seen. Just when it looked like he had been a made-up tool to keep people under control, he made his debut on last season’s finale. And then there’s his nemesis, who wasn’t even in the equation until the last hours but made such a splash with his John Locke shocker that he’s on every Lost fan’s mind. It kind of sucks if Ben really killed Jacob so soon, but there’ll be enough to deal with in what he’s been doing up until now, and how the man/being/spirit wearing the John Locke flesh-suit throughout season 5 fits into it all.

Richard Alpert Forever Young1. Richard Alpert and the fountain of youth.

It may not be the most crucial piece to the scattered Lost puzzle, but it sure it sure is in need of an explanation! Richard’s first chronological appearance on the island was in 1954, so why does he look the same energetic 30/40 in 2008? Besides this, he just has a lot of weirdness to him, seems to conveniently be at most important occurrences in the island’s history, and is way too much of a nice guy to be an Other. It’s confirmed that he’ll have his own flashback episode in season 6, so he won’t be hiding behind that baby-face for much longer. And hopefully the truth will justify this number one spot.

Honorable Mentions

Hurley and Libby together in psychiatric ward (Season 2, Episode 18)? What’s up with that?

In Season 5, why did Richard say he ‘watched them all die’ when looking at a picture of 1977-trapped Losties?

What’s up with dead people and the island?

Cindy and kids went to live happily ever after with the others in season 3. What became of them?

What’s the full story behind The Others?

Charles Widmore: bad guy or misunderstood?
